How Often Should You Actually Get a Massage?
Frequency by what you are treating — acute pain, chronic tension, desk posture, training load — and how to tell when to stretch the interval out.
Monthly is the honest default for most people. But frequency should follow what you are treating, and the difference between the right interval and the wrong one is most of whether massage works for you at all.
Treating something specific
Weekly or fortnightly at first. Tissue that has been held short for months does not release in one session and stay released — it goes back, a little less each time. Compressing the early sessions is what breaks the pattern.
Maintaining
Every four to six weeks. This is where most long-term clients land, and it is exactly the interval that member pricing is built around. One reviewer here has booked monthly for over two years.
Training hard
Fortnightly during a heavy block, dropping back between. And not the day before you compete — assisted stretching and deep tissue work both alter proprioception for a day or two.
Desk-driven neck and shoulders
This is the one case where shorter and more frequent beats longer and rarer. A 30-minute Half Body Massage at $75 every two to three weeks does more for a screen-bound neck than 90 minutes once a quarter.
How to know it is working
Not by how you feel walking out — everyone feels good walking out. By how long the change holds. If you are back where you started in 48 hours, the interval is too long or the approach is wrong. If it holds three weeks, you have found your rhythm.
