Long, continuous forearm strokes that cross the whole body rather than treating it in sections — and it is the session people describe as unlike anything else they have had.

Lomilomi is Hawaiian bodywork, and the thing that makes it distinctive is continuity. The therapist's forearms move in long, uninterrupted strokes that travel across joints and between regions, so the body is never worked as a set of separate parts.
It is also the modality that is most often taught badly — a few long strokes added to a Swedish massage and relabelled. Lauren holds an advanced Lomi Lomi certification, which is worth checking for anywhere you book it.
How it runs
Lomilomi is rhythmic work, and the rhythm is set to your breathing rather than to a playlist.
Forearm passes travel from shoulder to hip in one movement. That continuity is the modality.
Hands work beneath the body as well as on top, which is why the table set-up differs from a standard massage.
The close is as deliberate as the opening. Sitting up too quickly wastes the last twenty minutes of it.

Questions
Continuity and the use of the forearms. Swedish massage treats regions in sequence; Lomilomi moves across the whole body in long uninterrupted strokes, including under the body.
Because the technique is built on long passes and an unbroken rhythm. Cutting it to an hour turns it into something else with the same name.
It can be — forearm pressure carries real weight — but the sensation is broad rather than pointed. People who dislike elbow-into-a-knot work often prefer it.
Yes. Draping is standard throughout, adjusted for the longer strokes.
Water, and nothing strenuous for the rest of the day. Ninety minutes of continuous work is more systemic than it feels at the time.
Monthly suits most people. It is a reset rather than a corrective treatment — if you have a specific injury, the Ritual Massage is the better booking.
Lomilomi (Hawaiian Massage) is $250 for 90 minutes.
